Every week a half-dozen or so individuals take off their shoes and take up their post on the altar at Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers. They are the members of what is now called “Sol(e)d Out.” The worship band gathered this past Sunday, Oct. 12, to celebrate its first ever CD release. However, member Kate Tripoli is quick to point out, they don’t perform, and they take to the altar as opposed to a stage, so they can worship God and encourage the congregation to do so as well. According to Tripoli, Sol(e)d Out took its name from the idea that the members wanted to be “sold out” to God. The name also gives a nod to the cultural tradition of taking off one’s shoes while entering another’s home as a sign of respect. “When we are worshipping we are on holy ground,” she said. “We want to celebrate that.” Celebrate they did, with hundreds of supporters who came to the Block Party CD release at Word of Peace Lutheran Church, where the band takes to the altar weekly. The group got its humble beginnings four years ago when Dain Swanson looked to his then new girlfriend Heather Carr and friend Tripoli to help him out as he looked for permanent band members to lead the contemporary worship service at Word of Peace. But the barefooted trio ended up sticking together. A couple years ago the group added three more members: Bri Traquair, Beckie Petzoldt and Steve Ellwein.
